Brain Tumor Research Group

The Brain Tumor Research Group (BTRG) at Weill Cornell is recognized worldwide as a research center for adult and pediatric tumors of the brain and spinal cord. Its basic science laboratories pursue translational research on the biology and behavior of brain tumors. Scientists work with health care clinicians in partnership to translate laboratory findings into new and improved forms of clinical therapies. The group maintains extensive cell and tissue banks, collected from patients with brain tumors, and also harvests normal human brain stem cells. These banks are of incalculable value in providing starting material for initiating world-class cancer research. Uniquely positioned, the BTRG is at the forefront of translational medical exploration, bringing the best from the bench to the clinical arena.

Research Opportunities for Trainees

The BTRG offers neurological surgery residents and postdoctoral fellows research opportunities in diverse areas, including molecular biology of brain tumors, radiobiology, experimental chemotherapy, pharmacology, biophysics, biochemistry, and cell kinetics. The BTRG also offers opportunities in clinical research and trials through the Clinical Neuro-Oncology group, which treats both adult and pediatric patients. BTRG faculty and staff have trained many graduate students, residents, and postdoctoral fellows, and have published in major scientific journals. In conjunction with its training program, the BTRG holds weekly research conferences, seminars, and journal clubs.
